In Anoka County. Minnesota is a wonderful place called Columbia Heights. Its population has reached the 20,000 mark. The city is accessible by both the Minnesota State Highway 47 and Central Avenue 65. The city’s commercial district is located at Central Avenue and along University Avenue.

Columbia Heights was founded back in 1898, March 14. Back then, the city that we know now is just composed of 20 houses and a hundred residents. It became a city on July 21, 1921. Columbia Heights is one of the most ideal places to live in the state. The median cost of homes in the district is pegged at an affordable $107,600. For your child’s education, it is encouraging to know that Columbia Heights spends more than the national average expenditure per student. There are approximately 22 students for each teacher in Columbia Heights.

Bordered by the cities of Minneapolis, Saint Anthony, Fridley, and New Brighton, Columbia Heights possesses a hilly topography and it is where one of the highest points in Anoka County is located. Water activities abound in the region so you and your family would be able to enjoy dozens of various water fun opportunities in the five lakes located in the city: LaBelle Pond, Hart Lake, Silver Lake, Highland lake, and Sullivan Lake.

The city has a great park system mostly located within the swampland areas of the city. The main park of Columbia Height is Huset Park. The rest of the parks were named after members of the city council in 1921: McKenna, gauvitte, and Prestermon. For schools, we have Columbia Academy, Columbia Heights High School, Highland Elementary, Valley View, and North Park Elementary.

For entertainment, you can always go to Heights Theater. It is one of the main attractions in Columbia Heights, showing contemporary and nostalgic films. Husset Park is an amazing place that is filled with green grass and trees. It was named after the Lutheran pastor Elmer Husset. In the nearby cities just minutes away, you can enjoy a rollicking time at the 501 Club in Washington Avenue South. You can find the beautiful Swedish mansion built by the millionaire Swan Turnblad and it is named the American Swedish Institute. You can also check the 1848 built structure Arid Godfrey House along University Avenue Northeast.

You can find some of the rarest books in the world at the magnificent Tudor-inspired mansion the Bakken Library and Museum of Electricity in Life. The country’s first ever Basilica took 20 years to build and it can be found on 17th Street known as the Basilica of St. Mary. Of course, you would not want to miss the Bell Museum of Natural History at Church Street.

There are tons of interesting places in and around Columbia Heights. That is the reason why many people are now seriously considering transferring to this peaceful and wonderful place in Minnesota.
