Immediately southeast of St. Paul City, Minnesota is the city of South St. Paul. The city is known as one of the major meat packing regions in the country. A lot of the original citizens of South St. Paul are immigrants and descendants of settlers from Eastern and Southern Europe. The city is accessible via three major highways: the Minnesota Highway 156, US Highway 52, and the Interstate Highway 494. Much of the past industry of South St. Paul is hinged on the Union Stockyards. Although it remains operational, it is not as huge as before and most of the area where the stockyard is located is being developed for other industries.
When it comes to public education, there are two elementary schools in South St. Paul, a secondary school, and a community learning center. There are also two private schools which are St. John Vianney Catholic School and Holy Trinity catholic School. There is a wide range of faith in South St. Paul so whatever your religion is, it is welcome in the city. Some of the religious churches in the city include St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, St. Augustine Catholic Church, St Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church, St. Stephens Romanian Orthodox Church, and the Clark Memorial United Church of Christ.
There are so many things to do in South St. Paul for you and the entire family. You can go to the Indian Mounds Park which is approximately 4 miles from the center of South St. Paul City. The park provides a good view of the Mississippi River. There are 37 burial mounds in the park and the dead were buried with precious artifacts. The Dakota Indians used the same burial site for their dead between 1600 up to 1837.
About a little over 4 miles for the center of South St. Paul City is White Bear Lake. For art enthusiasts, there is the Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul and the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts. The latter hosts amazing performances such as operas, orchestras, and even touring Broadway musical shows. You should not also miss the Bell Museum of Natural History which displays a great number of animal specimens from all over the world. About ten miles from South St. Paul is what used to be Knott’s Camp Snoopy but has now been transformed into the Nickelodeon Universe. It is a theme park designed for the entire family.
Saint Paul’s oldest surviving stage is the Fitzgerald Theater which was built in 1910. It was formerly known as the Shubert Theater. It is an elegant structure patterned after the grand Maxine Elliot Theater in New York.
